John Boyega He left his mark on the Star Wars saga when he starred in the VII-IX episodes, but he (and many fans) expressed to feel underutilized his character and his story was disappointing. It turns out that he could have been more exciting if he had been given the opportunity to reveal that Finn was actually a Jedi.
The actor revealed during a recent panel in an event C2E2 in Chicago (via /Film) what the Star Wars trilogy has almost done with his character. Most fans have already heard that director JJ Abrams He understood him to reveal that Finn was sensitive to force, but Boyega offered a little more information on how that moment would have been.
Finn should have had this great revelation when he was sinking into mobile sands on the Pasaana desert planet. In the finished cut, Finn screams “Rey, I never told you …” but then it is sucked into the sand. Later he is saved, but never revisited the conversation. Boyega said about the scene:
“I mean, I tried to tell Rey before going down. There was a couple who just told me,”[shouts] I am a Jedi. There was a couple, but it was good to tease him. I wanted to say it when they go into the movable sands. “
So, apparently, Finn is never explicitly confirmed that he is a Jedi in the trilogy, which has been disappointing and strange considering that one of the most memorable images from the marketing of “The Force Awakens” presented Finn with a laser sword.
Abrams’ initial explanation for what Finn was saying was welcomed with fans’s skepticism; Many believed that he was doing the backpedaling after the recovery of the original interpretation of the scene from mobile sands, which was that Finn was about to confess the romantic feelings for Rey.
Honestly it seemed more like a confession of love, but the director and the actor himself say that the intention was to give us this revelation, so I imagine that the truth should be.
As for the development of his character, while he wanted Finn he would be able to do more, Boyega is clear in expressing that he did not place anything to the fault of the director JJ Abrams, who directed episodes VII and IX.
The actor said about the director:
“I was just supporting anything JJ wanted to do, being how we had so much story from” The Force Awakens “. And part of the narration on Finn that was founded in” The Force Awakens “were taken up by JJ in” The Rise of Skywalker “.
And it is difficult to do it. It is difficult to establish Rey and therefore establish another Jedi. You have to divide things with the time you are given to you. But I appreciate the little things that JJ was doing in there. “
The future is still open to Finn’s character, considering that he is still alive, and his story after that trilogy is not exploited. Boyega concluded: “I appreciate JJ for putting those Easter eggs and tried to expand. So if there is ever a reinterpretation of Finn, there are things to play with”.
Would you like to see Finn’s character explored in any guise of Star Wars in the future?
