Lucas González, one half of the Spanish pop duo Andy y Lucas, has undergone a new rhinoplasty in Turkey this week, saying he is delighted with the results almost two years after a previous nose operation left him with lasting complications.
Speaking on Telecinco's summer entertainment programme El verano se mueve, González said he was recovering well. He said that, while still wearing the cast fitted after the operation, he was following a strict aftercare routine of creams and ointments applied morning, afternoon and night, alongside painkillers and eight weeks of antibiotics.
He said that after everything, he could finally look in the mirror and see a nose profile again, adding that he now had a nose again, thanks to God.
A botched operation two years ago
González's troubles began almost two years ago, when a previous rhinoplasty failed to produce the slender, refined nose he had hoped for. He went back into surgery to correct it, but the outcome was worse.
He initially denied having undergone cosmetic surgery at all, attributing his appearance to unspecified health matters. He later admitted that he had in fact had the procedure done for aesthetic reasons, but that something had not gone as planned.
González said he did not blame the clinic or the surgeon, insisting the fault was entirely his own for not following medical instructions to the letter. He said he had not taken the prescribed antibiotics or applied the ointments, and that a vein had burst and failed to heal properly.
Andy y Lucas, formed by Andy Bustos and Lucas González, was one of Spain's best-known pop duos. González's surgery complications unfolded as the pair were splitting up.
He said he struggled to find a doctor willing to operate on him again because of the negative publicity it might bring. He said he spent almost two years searching for a solution before travelling to Turkey.
New nose and months of recovery ahead
González had to wait several months for his tissue to fully heal before he could go back into surgery. This week he finally had the new procedure carried out in Turkey.
He said he was very happy and content, adding that he had recovered part of his essence. He said he had several professional projects under way that had given him back his enthusiasm, though he stressed he was taking things step by step.
He said recovery would not happen overnight, and that it could take several more months for the swelling to go down and his face to settle. He said he expected many journalists to try to reach him but would not be able to respond to everyone, as he needed to focus on resting.
