Bill Hader and Daniel Zelman, co-creation of the series on the cult of Jonestown to HBO with Hader in Talks to Star

Bill Hader (Snl, Barry) AND Daniel Zelman They are working on a series on reverend Jim Jones, the charismatic leader of worship behind the suicide of the 1978 Murder Mass-Murder to the Temple Agricultural Project (Aka Jonestown) people in the Guyana jungle. The project is being developed at HBO and the couple is set to Co-Schi and Co-Showrun of the series. Hader is also in negotiations with Star.

Hader will direct even if the project advances. According to Logline, the project tells the story of Jones and its people.

Jonestown became infamous internationally in November 1978 when Jones orchestrated a suicide of mass murder of over 900 members of his temple of people in Jonestown, Guyana.

Most of the dead was caused by a punch of fruit intertwined by cyanide, with some who have been forced to ingest the poison, while others have been injected. The poisonings followed the murder of the American deputy Leo Ryan by the members of the Temple of Port Kaima, ordered by Jones.

Four other members have committed a murder-suicide in Georgetown, in Guyana under Jones’s command. Jones had brought his followers to Guyana from the United States, promising them an utopian community, but his leadership became more and more paranoid and controlling.
