We all know Paul Rudd Like the eternally young funnyman who enchanted himself among the com-com, the Marvel Mayhem, and basically every embarrassing moment in the middle. But long before he became a famous A-List star, Rudd’s first step in the celebrity of the acting was … a super nintendo spot.
In 1991, a teenager Paul Rudd starred in a now tied SNES advertising that sporses himself in the film drama. It opens with the fog on a horror music by Synth Overdrive and Moonful and Rudd wearing a black trench coat, approaching a giant external screen. He slams the super nintendo and start playing.
Now, 34 years later, Rudd has returned where it all started. Nintendo has just dropped a new spot for the imminent Nintendo Switch 2, and is a love letter directed to that original announcement.
Rudd enters the role again with the same coat, the same music and the same disturbing vibrations. But everything around him is updated and modern.
The Switch 2 announcement works on so many levels, it is a bomb of nostalgia for longtime fans, a wink at Rudd’s roots and a reminder that Nintendo knows exactly how to play a long game. This is so fun!
