Director appointed to Oscar Uberto Pasoliniwho produced The full mountain and more recently directed The returnRemoved by Ralph Fiennes like Odysseus, he is taking on an adaptation of the TV series of Jonathan Swift’s classic adventure novel Gulliver’s travels. William Ivory (We want sex, The great escaper) is writing the screenplay for the six -episode project on which Pasolini will act as a showrunner.
The high -end show, now in the early stages, is produced by Roberto Sessa (The sea beyond) and Jan Wünschmann (The swarm, Concord). It will be revealed to potential issuers during the Mania Festival series in Lille.
Pasolini told the variety of the project:
“What Gulliver allows us to do today is to make something truly, really funny. But at the same time – very similar to Swift has done in his time – to talk about the world around us; politics; to talk about greed; talk about the place of western man in the world as a whole; to talk about the relationship between man and nature.”
“All that stuff was there in the original. And somehow he asks to be explored again,” he added, observing that “Swift was having fun with his material, with his policy, with his scotology, with his obsession with the ship, sex and piss and action and all that type of things”.
I remember having to read Gulliver’s travels At high school, and I found really difficult to overcome. But perhaps the subject material would be more interesting as an adult. Are you a fan of the book or previous adaptations?
