Review: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition looks like a Mmorpg offline

Not long ago, Nintendo and Monolithsoft have released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition On the Nintendo switch. I always wanted to play this game on the Wii U (yes, I have a wii u) but I never had the opportunity, so I was excited when it came to switch.

Nintendo was so kind that I provide me with a review code, but all the thoughts below are mine. You can buy it from your favorite retailers including Humble Store (affiliation link) with a recommended price of $ 59.99.

Xenoblade chronicles x It was originally released on The Wii U in 2015 and, as I said, I really wanted to play it, but I didn’t have the opportunity despite having a Wii U. This meant that I was super enthusiastic to play a remastered version on Nintendo Switch.

Since I have not played the Wii U version, this review will not be a comparison (with an exception that we will arrive) but rather a review from the point of view of a newcomer. I did not complete the story, but I played for about 20 hours and I am in the middle of chapter 5 (out of 12 plus the prologue).

I want to bring out my only comparison between the two versions before immersing myself too much in this. When I started playing Xenoblade chronicles x On the switch I thought it was really good overall with an appearance that annoyed me, so I was curious and I pulled on graphic comparison videos just to see how visually changed.

I was happy to see that overall, there seemed to be a decent graphic review with plots, environments, lighting and even improved models. I feel like there is an area that perhaps had a downgrade: the hair. In the comparison videos I saw, the Wii U version of the game had the hair that moved like hair.

A character turned his head and hair slipped down the shoulder and fell. Unfortunately, in the Switch version of Xenoblade chronicles x Hair seems to have been unwavering to death to maintain PS2 style looks. I must admit that the styles of hair seem much better on the characters I have seen including Elma and Lin, but I think we have lost to have hair as hair.

Now we will talk about some aspects of the game that are less than enthusiastic about. The nucleus of many of my complaints derives from the simple fact that I hoped to be able to play randomly to the game, but there are so many mechanics in play that it seems that you should devote a lot of time just to learn those to really feel as if I had an idea of how to play.

For example, let’s take a look at Gear. Each equipment has so many statistics attached to it and while I collect new tools (through booty, reward or purchases) I want to use the new equipment but I often find that the new equipment gives minimal earnings in one or two statistics, significantly reducing two or three other statistics. For an informal beginner like me, that compromise does not seem very good for most of the time.

Why should I sacrifice 40 melee damage to climb 2 defense? Why should I use a level 16 assault rifle with a higher weapons evaluation if it reports that my damage will fall more than half of my level 3 assault rifle? Once again, I am sure that if I really immersed myself in things, I would find the answers to this type of questions. I just want the leveling equipment to make more sense for an occasional player like me.

Likewise, the game looks very heavy and slow. There is a good probability that at least a part of this has to do with not fully understand all the mechanics and therefore have a non -optimal build, composition of the team, etc. However, the fact is that you must constantly grind regardless. You can’t simply play the main story to enjoy the game and grind sometimes.

The story takes a break after each chapter until various requirements are met for others such as meeting a certain level, complete certain collateral missions or scouting enough of the planet. I am not a fan of this design in general, but I feel much worse in a single player experience (yes, I know there is an optional online game * optional) compared to a mmorpg in which you generally come across the design of the game like this. The grinding of Xenoblade chronicles x Furthermore, he feels bad because the missions seem to give a misery of experience for completion.

Another problem I have with the game seems very sweet and sour. While traveling through Mira (the planet in which you are) you will find a wide variety of indigen called creatures. These are monsters and I really like the different design, the aspects of the titans, the fact that you can direct different appendages, etc.

However, I annoy myself for the way they are distributed. I am not angry in finding some natives in certain areas; I am frustrated by the fact that you can find a level 12 Simius area and then see a level 81 tyrant enhanced in extension marked as an aggressive enemy. Or you could walk through a field with a level of Grex of level 8-10 and there are only two level Grex 36 which are aggressive.

What worsens is that many levels have recommended levels, but the enemies you have to face are much higher than that level. This (in my opinion) The embarrassing level distribution of the enemies has led to a great fear of exploring really a lot of map because you never know when you will be ambush from high -level enemies.

There is another aspect that I want to face negatively. The map thus becomes cumbersome! I don’t mind having icons that present themselves to inquire about where the search objectives are found or where I can go to start the missions, but when a map is scattered with icons for the start of the missions for which I am not even close to satisfying the requirements, it is frustrating. They are level 19 right now and I have indicators for missions that require to be about level 40. I am not close at the beginning of that research. I don’t need to know where it starts.

Now I want to switch to more positive comments. Maybe my favorite appearance of Xenoblade chronicles x It was the soundtrack. I still have to hear a song that I didn’t think was fantastic. Above all, I like the battle music that has a very rock flavor. I may not appreciate having to grind, but at least I can hear some fantastic music while I do it.

Speaking of fighting, combat in Xenoblade chronicles x It’s quite fun. Each character is equipped with a mixed weapon and a distance weapon that will often pass by different arts and combo. I really appreciate the way the icons shine when the game wants you to use a certain type of art for a combination or has a sign to indicate that you have met the conditions to get the most out of an art.

This can also help novices like me to know quickly when using some arts in an attempt to optimize our combat experience at least partially. During the fight, you also have QuickTime Soul Challenge events in which you have to press B at the right time to give a push to your party, including healing and increase morality, which can ensure that these events occur more often.

Another aspect that I want to praise is the characteristic of fashion. In many games, you have to make the choice to go with the armor that seems the best but perhaps suffer in terms of statistics or going with the best armor statistics that does not seem good together (or not even).

The function of fashion equipment allows you to select a piece of equipment for each armor slot and it does not matter which equipment that you equate, the skin will be what you choose under fashion. Some games allow you to do it, but in general it is on a basis for the object instead of only a general setting that you can adjust every time.

I wish the headdress could be activated by character through fashion equipment instead of in the settings of the system where everything or none. I would also like you to regulate the colors for fashion. Overall, however, it’s really fun.

In a semi-contemporary note, I really appreciate a small detail on the title screen. When you load the game, you will see your character, Elma and Lin. They all wear any equipment that you equipped them with the game.

I just think it’s a fun detail. In addition, it is fun for me as weapons are attached to the models of characters at any time and it becomes even more fun if you have the character wearing a swimsuit and the weapons are still only attached behind the character. It is a bit of laugh as for it is absurd.

Xenoblade chronicles x It has an online game for a maximum of 32 players to crush, complete the special objectives and go out. I went briefly online on the public server, but it wasn’t for me. I am sure that if I had some friends who also played the game we would have had a lot of fun running around fighting the natives and completing the team’s missions, but I’m not a boy from Carlino and I didn’t care. It may also have been different if I were in the final game and I still didn’t try to complete the story.

I also want to note that because of the slow progression in history I have not been able to try playing with Skells, which is another sin for me because they were one of the things I was most enthusiastic about the game. I am a great fanatic for the mecha and that was one of the original draws Xenoblade chronicles x For me. It is a pity that it takes so much time to access that part of the game.

My final note is on history. As I said, they are between ⅓ and ½ of the way made with the story and that’s okay. I just got to a point where I was more interested in history, but until about 15-30 minutes ago, it did not seem anything special.

The terrestrials fled from the earth when the aliens attacked, the aliens attacked the ships on which they fled, the terrestrials found themselves on a new planet and are now trying to survive while they take again as much as possible from the ship, including the survivors.

Along the way, you also meet various aliens who vary between friend and enemy, including some who were the ones who knocked down your ship and then start asking you because even if they are here. As I said, it was beautiful but rather generic until much more recently when they started some questions.

The biggest problem is that you look at trailers like the one above and it seems that this epic battle for survival will be. I put more than 20 hours of gameplay and practically everything after the 40 second sign was not part of the game. It is a lot to ask someone to put more than 20 hours in a game before it actually enters the stuff from the trailers.

At the end of the day, I like it Xenoblade chronicles x. Not as much as I thought and certainly not as much as many others do/will do. In my opinion, it seems much more similar to a MMORPG that can be played offline that it is not exactly what I wanted from this game.

If you want a very fleshy game that you can only spend hours learning complexity of mechanics and builds and that kind of thing, then Xenoblade chronicles x It is worth trying for you. If you want to play more than a casual game, I don’t know I would recommend it.

I will probably continue to play for now, but it won’t take long to see me bounce unless something great changes to really suck me. If you are the target audience, this game is definitely a 9/10. Unfortunately, I feel that I missed the sign for me just enough where the score is lower.
