The director of the Lanterni series James Hawes affirms the tone of the DC Comics show – “does not miss his science fiction magic”

British director James Hawes has worked on some fantastic TV series in the past, too Doctor Who, Genius, The alienist, Black mirror, Slow horses And more. It is about to face something completely different with the next series of DC comics, LanternA HBO/Max.

While talking about some of his next projects with Collider, Hawes spoke of his vision for the series and how he came to direct the project, saying: “I worked with the team at HBO Max three times before. I created Snowpiercer With Sarah Aubrey and Joey Chavez, and I had worked with them The alienist AND Raised by the wolves. ”

He continued: “There is a very particular humor that have led to this. It is very rooted in a way that I like to think of getting with slow horses, which I get with things like my black mirror, yet there is a rich vein of humor that crosses it.

“So again, it was that tone. I am a big fan of Damon [Lindelof] and Chris [Mundy] And the writing they have done in the past. “

“Listen, everything starts from the script,” the director offered. “When you turn those pages, can you get their smell? You always find a scene or two you think: ‘I can’t wait to be standing next to the camera and the cast, directing this scene the day.’

“If this happens in turning the pages, you know that this is something you have to take seriously, and this has absolutely happened with the lanterns. To a certain extent, it is a swerve. The superheroes are not somewhere that I played before, but it was created in this way – and I can’t tell you much – that it tightened me.”

Hawes has continued to discuss the tone on the ground of the series, which is a departure from the spatial external stars adventures from Green lantern comic books.

“There is no lack of his magic of science fiction, but it is done in a world in which you accept that these things are. They don’t need that caution of science fiction dust. It works in a physical world that we have learned about.”

I love the casting of this series and I like what I have heard and seen so far. Lantern It is set to hit HBO Max in 2026, then remain tuned for updates on the series while developing.
