Fans of Happy Death Day I waited for a third chapter of the Slasher-Loop saga. But if I still had hope Happy Death Day 3You may want to let him go.
Writer and director Christopher Landon I just gave a very honest update and does not seem promising. While spoken with the magazine SFX, Landon revealed that while once there was some momentum behind a third film, the conversations stopped a long time ago.
“I didn’t write the script because I never want to count my hens and go on myself. But I was ready to start writing this, but then it was a bit like, it was strange,” he explained.
That “strangeness” included some first interviews on the passage of the franchise to streaming, in particular as a series of limited events.
“We had many attacks and splashes in terms of perhaps we will do it. At a certain point they talked about it becoming a thing of events in three parts for [streaming service] Peacock, who was a bit strange, “added Landon.
“I was like, ‘Alriiiiiiight! Whatever you need.’ But then it disappeared and that was the last one we have ever heard of it – that was years ago.
So, this is where things are. No script. No active development. Only the persistent details of what could have been.
Landon previously had shared his concept for the third film saying: “The idea for the third film is not set on the same day, if this is a great spoiler. So it can happen later.”
He added: “We are not against a really difficult clock at this moment. The other films were difficult, because they were set on the same day, so everyone had to appear equal, being the same. The pressure is out there.”
He went to say: “At the moment it’s definitely out of the side. I would like it to be not, and I know [Jason Blum, producer] He is passionate about it, I know I’m very passionate, and I know that Jessica Rothe is also really anxious to do it. “
He continued: “I wrote the idea for the third film some time ago. I think we are all enthusiastic about it, because it is different from the other two films, and therefore we are really just crossing our fingers and we hope that our fan base will continue to grow – that it is something that I have liked much over the years, seeing more years, seeing more and more people discover both films. So who knows.
Landon admits the disappearance of the franchise from the Universal and Blumhouse radar has left him confused:
“It was an interesting journey because both films have had financial success, so I think he left us and many fans scratch their heads on why we were not allowed to make a third.
“But I do not check the ropes of the bag, I don’t call those shots. It is entirely up to Blumhouse and universal, if they have an appetite or an interest in it.”
For now, the story of Tree is blocked in limbo and the cycle could be broken forever.
