Edgar Wright He is doing his tour The man runningAnd this time he is closer to Stephen King’s Original vision. The film out, starring Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters), is intended to hit the cinemas on 7 November 2025, courtesy of Paramount.
Unlike the adaptation led by Schwarzenegger of 1987, which transformed the dystopian thriller into a high -level of game show, Wright’s version promises to capture the raw and surviving essence of King’s novel.
In a conversation with Empire Magazine, Wright has opened on what excites him most of his opinion:
“One of the things of the book I loved was the fact that Ben Richards is out of the world alone, so it is like the most fatal game of Hide and Seek. It seems to make a road movie in many ways: a very intense and dangerous road movie. “
Wright has developed further: “Ben is moving through different environments and meet different people while trying to survive 30 days in nature”.
The film will certainly be very different from the gladiator -style action soaked in neon Paul Michael Glaser’S The man runningBut this is exactly the point. The King’s novel, published under his Richard Bachman The pseudonym in 1982 is more an relentless and paranoid pursuit than a crazy blood sport.
Join Powell in the cast are Colman Domingo (Candyman) AND Katy O’Brian (Love is bleeding), although their roles are still in the phase.
For those who are not familiar, the 1987 film has reworked the story of King in a show of dystopian games in which the prisoners fight for their freedom against bright killers. As he devoted himself from the novel, the film sculpted a legacy in his own right.
Powell previously spoke about the next project, saying: “I was a fan of Edgar Wright for my whole life. And talk to him Running ManWhat was truly incredible is his opinion. It is not much the original Schwarzenegger film, it is much more rooted in the version of Stephen King (Novella).
“While I like the original 1987 film, it is very different from the story that King wrote, so I am very enthusiastic about the fact that Wright’s film will be much closer to the material of origin.”
Previously Wright had discussed his vision for the film and how he wants it to be a true adaptation of the book, saying: “I think that even in these days it is as in terms of similar, you know that I think that when the remakes are done well both if there is something else to add or there is a different vision.
He continued: “So I think the problem is sometimes as remakes are just a kind of facsimiles of the original film and I have not really thrilled myself with many of them because they feel like a kind of versions of karaoke of the originals”.
Wright added: “Obviously it was like the 70s and 80s that you had those in which they were additives like Philip Kauffman’s Invasion of the Snatcher body OR John Carpenter’s Thing OR David Cronenberg’s Moscow; He is taking something and is doing something interesting with it. “
He continues to speak specifically about his vision for this, saying: “In terms of things I was (doing), as you know, The man running which is something that is in active development. Why is it interesting for me? I like the movie but I like the book more and have not really adapted the book. “
He said: “Also as a teenager when I saw Schwarzenegger’s film, I was like” Oh, it’s not the book at all “and I think nobody adapted that book.
“So when it happened, I was thinking of knowing and Simon Kinberg says: you have some interests The man running? “I said:” You know what I have often thought that that book was something to cry to be adapted. “Now that’s it does not mean that it is easy but as if it were something we are working on, yes, I will say so much.”
Wright’s film is trying to draw on something different, something darker, more suspense and faithful to King’s original dystopian nightmare. I can’t wait to see what Wright offers!
