Obviously we all know the story of Cinderella, and now we are probably familiar with the material of origin and how actually the fairy tales of Dark Grimm are. These stories have been given the treatment of horror many times in the past, but this most recent story could be the most beautiful.
The ugly half -sister Follows the titular person Elvira, unfortunately a “ugly” living room with open eyes that fantastic to marry the prince.
When a real ball is announced, Elvira and her mother attempts a series of improvements to the appearance of Elvira, including a very rudimentary nose work that forces her to wear a sort of melted metal on the nose.
There are some truly terrifying and serious moments in this film that attract attention to the lengths in which humans have gone over time to make themselves hot.
Certainly sleepless in its criticisms, there are many shocking moments that will make you feel nauseated. In fact, at the beginning of the projection we were said that a member of the public in fact vomited during the premiere of this film, which is the first time that I have ever heard of what is happening at Sundance.
The ugly half -sister is described by the director Emilie Blichfeldt as “beauty horror”. He cites David Cronenberg as one of his inspirations, and it is easy to understand why. Like many Cronenberg films, the horror of the body is the result of the implacable push of the characters and their will to do everything for what they want.
The description of the film reads: “In a fairytale kingdom where beauty is a brutal deal, Elvira fights to compete with her incredibly beautiful stepsister, and will go to any length to capture the prince’s attention.”
The director describes the film as “a twisted reinterpretation of Cinderella With gruesome loyalty to the interpretation of Grimm-East, The ugly half -sister He shifts the attention to Elvira’s search for beauty at all costs. But where fairytale cinderellas has a silk, this has tanked.
“For a good extent, the Norwegian director Emilie Blichfeldt throws into decomposition corpses, horror of the ironic body and a surgical remake of the 19th century, creating a characteristic of cupically fun and cheerfully grotesque debut.
“Satire notices the manufactured beauty and its industries, selling the body image as a means of achieving desability, success and the social status. We cannot help entering empathy with Elvira, who is insecure and attracted by the barbaric embellishment scheme of the mother Avara largely as a means for an end: acceptance and happiness (forever).
“From the nose to the other, Elvira’s disturbing transformation ship is the talent of Breakout Lea Myren, which gives a heroically committed performance.”
