DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Actor Wilson Bethel Reflects on Losing Role of CAPTAIN AMERICA to Chris Evans

Wilson Bethelwho will reprise his role as Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Againrecently shared a story from his career that could have taken him on a very different path in the MCU.

The actor revealed how close he came to landing the role of Steve Rogers Captain America: The First Avengera role he eventually went to Chris Evans.

During a Fan Expo event, Bethel spoke about the bittersweet experience of narrowly missing out on one of the MCU’s most iconic characters.

Bethel shared, “The hardest blow I ever suffered was that I came very close to being cast as Captain America. I did several screen tests and the costume looked incredible.

“There were all these things that made me feel like I was getting the part. And then I remember my agent called me one day and said, “No, actually, they offered it to Chris Evans or something.”

It’s hard to imagine anyone but Evans playing Captain America. But Evans initially rejected Marvel’s offer, leading the studio to consider several other actors before convincing him to accept the role.

Bethel was one of the finalists, making the news of the defeat especially tough. Bethel admitted:

“To be honest, that was one of the most difficult moments of my professional career. It upset me for a while, to be honest.

“But I’m also a firm believer that things happen the way they should, and obviously Chris did an incredible job in that role.”

While he may not have led the Avengers, he embraced the other opportunities that came his way, including stepping into the shoes of Bullseye in the Daredevil franchise.

He added: “My life, even if it hasn’t led to me leading the Avengers, has been really rich and rewarding in other ways. And honestly, just the fact that things have kind of come full circle, and I can still be a guy in a suit, is pretty exciting.

Fans are eager to see Bethel’s return to the Marvel Universe when Daredevil: Born Again arrives on Disney+. Set photos confirmed that Bethel will be wearing a real Bullseye costume Born again.
