Review: WOLF MAN is a fantastic film that offers a disturbing and nightmarish experience

I entered The Wolf Man I was expecting a decent horror movie, but what I got exceeded my expectations. This film offers great thrills and chills, but what I loved most is that it drags you through a nightmarish, visceral experience that is equally disturbing and exhilarating.

The story centers on Blake, played by Christopher Abbotta husband and father from San Francisco who inherits his childhood home in rural Oregon after his father mysteriously disappears.

His difficult marriage to Charlotte (Giulia Garner) inspires him to suggest taking a family trip to the remote property with daughter Ginger (Matilde Firth). What begins as an attempt to reconnect turns into a night of unimaginable terror when they are attacked by a menacing creature.

As the family barricades themselves inside the farm, Blake begins to transform into a werewolf creature. Watching his descent was distressing as the transformation was slow and torturous and emphasized the emotional and physical toll on the character.

I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him as his humanity slipped away piece by piece. It was truly a nightmare situation and a deeply tragic moment for the character. It’s an aspect of the film that stuck with me after watching the film.

The creature’s design strays from the traditional werewolf aesthetic, but offers something fresh and disturbing. It may not be what fans of classic werewolves expect, but it felt like a natural extension of the film’s unique tone and I appreciated the risks taken with its look.

Another thing I liked is how The Wolf Man he had the ability to tell a simple story in such a powerful way. The film doesn’t try to overcomplicate things, and that’s to its advantage. It strips the werewolf genre down to its essential elements, adding new layers of terror and emotional weight.

I also want to point out that the trailers didn’t spoil any major plot points, so I was surprised by the twists and turns the story took. The film doesn’t rely on cheap scares, but creates tension punctuated by moments of terror.

Director Leigh Whannell has created an intense and unique take on the werewolf myth and is a complex and wild cinematic experience that will scare you and there are aspects that will stick with you. It will sink its claws into your psyche.

I think audiences will like what this film has to offer.
