Netflix has released a trailer for their upcoming limited series Apple cider vinegara crazy true story that follows the life of Belle Gibson, a convicted Australian fraudster and proponent of pseudoscience, who, as a health influencer, convinced her followers she was beating cancer with her healthy diet.

“This would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.” Netflix bills Apple cider vinegar as a “true story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a welfare empire; the culture that built it and the people that tore it down.”
In the trailer, Belle (Kaitlyn Dever) tries to meet Milla Blake (Alycia Debnam-Carey), a popular blogger who actually has cancer, although they soon become rivals.
Milla’s friend Chanelle (Aisha Dee) tells Milla that Belle “just wants me to help her out a little, professionally.” Milla replies: “Of course it does. She’s competitive with me.
Belle is seen going through the hospital’s imaging machines and developing an ever-larger following on Instagram. Later, during a phone call, Milla tells someone, “I want to destroy her.”
The rest of the cast includes Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Ashley Zukermann, Mark Coles Smith, Susie Porter, Matt Nable, Phoenix Raei, Chai Hansen, Rick Davis, Kieran Darcy-Smith, Catherine McClements AND Essie Davis.
Based on the book The woman who deceived the world Of Beau Donelly AND Nick Toscano, Apple cider vinegar was created by Samantha Strausswho wrote the series together Anya Beyersdorf AND Angela Betzien.
Sounds like a really interesting story. I don’t even remember it happening in real time, but maybe it wasn’t talked about as much here as it was in Australia.
Or my kids were all very young and I wasn’t following the news very well at that point. Anyway, I’m excited to dive into all of this now.
Check out the trailer below and watch Apple cider vinegar when it releases on Netflix on February 6.
