Even though he’s not part of it James Gunn’s DCU, director Matt Reeves he built a universe around his film The Batman that fans find compelling.
It gave us the first dark and gritty film that Bruce Wayne found (Robert Pattinson) in his second year as the Dark Knight, where he was leaning into his detective mode. Then the TV series The Penguin came out, giving us context for the character Oswald Cobb (Colin Farrell), and we’re all ready for more.
Reeves is also ready to continue his work in this world, and expressed his hopes in an interview with MTV News, saying: “I would like to do more [spinoff series],” adding that “the thing we are really focused on” is Batman 2.
“We’re talking about doing the second season of The Penguinbut my big priority is to get Batman 2 shoot and go. And then it’ll be exciting where we go from there.
He went on to confirm that production will begin this year and added, “Our plan, and our hope, is absolutely to do another season.” [of The Penguin]. We just have to have the idea that we think is the right idea, and that’s what we’re working on.”
While development is ongoing Batman 2 is “taking longer than I would have liked,” Reeves said, “I’m super excited about what we’re doing, so I’m really looking forward to sharing it with everyone.”
We’re excited to see the next film and the next stories in the Batman universe that he will tell on TV.
