Director Paolo Feig is setting the record straight, dispelling the rumors that A simple favor 2 was delayed indefinitely by Amazon due to the drama surrounding the star Blake Lively.
Early Friday morning, an Internet sleuth, known as “Eric B” on X, posted a thread describing how Amazon had shelved the sequel to the 2018 crime thriller amid Lively’s legal fallout with her. It ends with us co-star, Giustino Baldoniand a reported feud with co-star Anna Kendrick.
“BREAKING: Amazon shelves ‘A Simple Favor 2’ indefinitely,” reads the first post in the thread. “Despite brilliant test screenings, Blake Lively’s refusal to promote – in the midst of her complicated legal battle with Justin Baldoni – and growing tensions with Anna Kendrick derailed the sequel. Anna is furious. Paul Feig is disappointed. Hollywood is in shock. This isn’t just a movie: it’s an implosion.”
Feig responded to the post that evening, adamantly denying that there were any problems with the film’s release.
“This is total bullshit. I’m sorry,” Feig wrote. “The movie is finished and will be out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days.
The investigator then asked Feig to “clarify” why Amazon had not yet set a release date for the film, noting that it would “end in April 2024.” Feig replied:
“My friend, it’s called post production, which generally takes at least six months if you take into account the editing, soundtrack, special effects, sound mixing, subtitles and all the technical quality control that needs to be done.
“Our posting schedule was always to finish everything by mid-January. Movies don’t come out the moment they’re finished because the studio spends the previous year deciding the best date to release it.
“We always had something planned for spring/summer this year. That’s how movies work. Hope this helps.
In a subsequent response to a fan, Feig wrote: “The movie is fantastic and Blake and Anna give amazing performances. I can’t wait for you all to see it. Stay tuned for more details. Simple favor 2 it will arrive soon!”
