Spider-Man’s longtime nemesis, the Green Goblin, is one of the most iconic villains in comic book history, and he’s portrayed fantastically Willem Dafoe in some Spider-Man films.
But Dafoe won’t be able to play the character forever Invincible star Chris Diamantopoulos he plans to play Norman Osborn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also has an interesting tone for a Goblins television series.
In a recent interview with The Direct, Diamantopoulos shared his love of comics and his ambitious idea to explore Osborn’s descent into villainy.
He said: “I was born going to the Silver Snail comic book store. It was one of the first places I went to as a kid, little guy. I’ve been a comic book fan, a Marvel fan my whole life, I’ve passed it on to my son.
“But I think they should do a called series Goblinsand it should be about Norman Osborn leading him to become the Green Goblin. And I’m supposed to be Norman Osborn.”
Diamantopoulos is known for his roles in Silicon Valley AND Hannibaland he definitely has the acting chops to deal with the duality of Osborn’s character.
While stepping into the shoes of Dafoe’s iconic portrayal is a tall order, but Diamantopoulos might be able to pull off something unique and interesting with enthusiasm for the role and talent.
The Green Goblin’s future in the MCU is wide open. Marvel Studios has yet to introduce an Earth-616 version of Norman Osborn, leaving the door open for a new take on the character.
Dafoe himself has not ruled out another return. During the promotion Nosferatuhe said, “We’ll see. I might come back. Tom [Holland] He was great to work with, and the whole series of Spider-Man films I made were a lot of fun.”
Dafoe previously shared his willingness to reprise the role, saying: “If everything went well, sure. I mean, it’s a fantastic role. I liked the fact that it’s a double role both times… very experiences different, but I had fun.” on both.”
Regardless, Diamantopoulos’ shot for a Goblins TV series offer an interesting alternative. Exploring Norman Osborn’s rise to power in a serialized format could delve deeper into his psyche and the factors that drive him to become the Green Goblin.
