Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has signed on to star in and produce the big screen adaptation of The Partnerbased on the author John Grisham’s 1997 bestselling novel of the same name. The imitation game‘S Graham Moore is adapting the screenplay for Universal.
The novel was written during a time when Grisham was receiving up to $8 million for the film rights to compulsively readable thrillers that made great vehicles for stars and directors.
His successful adaptations include A time to kill with Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock and Samuel L. Jackson, along with Tom Cruise The companyMatt Damon and Claire Danes The rainmakerTommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon The customerDenzel Washington and Julia Roberts’ The pelican’s reportand John Cusack, Gene Hackman and Rachel Weisz’ The fugitive jury.
The Partner follows “Patrick Lanigan, a young partner at a Biloxi law firm who fakes his own death in a burning car. He left behind a wife, a newborn daughter and a secret.
“What he actually did was fake his death to create a blueprint for a new life, stealing $90 million from a client of his crooked law firm.
“Find happiness and love in South America. When the client who worked so hard to defraud the government discovers that money is missing from his offshore accounts, he becomes determined to hunt down the lawyer he doesn’t believe is dead.
This leads to the lawyer having to turn himself in to the FBI and face his wife, son and the life he left behind.”
Holland will be seen next in Universal The OdysseyChristopher Nolan Oppenheimer sequel which also stars Zendaya, Matt Damon, Rob Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.
The Netherlands is the protagonist of its quarter Spider-Man movie, and will likely bring his crawler between the two Avengers movie that Joe and Anthony Russo are making.
