Marvel Studios’ Deadpool and Wolverine brought a wave of excitement with the return of beloved Fox characters X-Men universe. However, there was one glaring omission Josh BrolinCable.
Cable was the key character introduced Deadpool 2. Despite the film’s heavy use of multiverse antics and nostalgic nods, Cable was nowhere to be seen and, according to Deadpool’s co-creator Rob Liefeldit wasn’t a coincidence.
In a blunt statement on X, Liefeld accused Marvel Studios of actively preventing Cable’s inclusion in the film. He wrote: “I shouldn’t have stopped him Deadpool and Wolverine. An all-time heretical move.
The comment sparked a firestorm of speculation among fans, especially considering Cable’s prominent role in the film Dead Pool franchising.
Josh Brolin had hinted at his absence in the film before its release, confirming that he probably would not appear in the third installment. While no official explanation was given, Liefeld’s comments suggest that members of the creative team did not want him to be involved.
Deadpool and Wolverine he didn’t completely ignore Cable. The film included two sly references to the character. In one scene, Deadpool tells Happy Hogan, “The X-Force team didn’t do well in the focus group, especially Cable.”
Later, while joking with Mr. Paradox, he said, “Is it because I used Cable’s time machine?” Which was a nod to the infamous Deadpool 2 post-credits scene.
Regardless of his absence Deadpool and WolverineBrolin expressed excitement at the idea of working with Marvel again. He said he would be open to “anything the Russos wanted me to do,” fueling rumors of his potential return in upcoming MCU projects.
Brolin has also previously said of Deadpool and Wolverine“I wanted to be in that movie so bad.” He added: “Cable was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed playing that role.”
With Joe AND Antonio Russo direct Avengers: Judgment Day AND Avengers: Secret WarsSpeculation has centered on the possibility that Brolin could reprise his role as Thanos or even make a surprise return as Cable.
For now, the future of Brolin’s involvement with Marvel is up in the air and fans will have to wait to see if Marvel Studios has any future plans to bring him back.
I shouldn’t have blocked him from Deadpool and Wolverine. An all-time heretical move. https://t.co/QlpDqyZKqC
