The creator of SQUID GAME teases season 3 after the season 2 finale of Insane

“If the world doesn’t change, the game isn’t over.” These disturbing words from Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) to Gi-hun (Lee Jung Jae) In Squid game The second season set the stage for an even darker and more intense story in the third season.

After the shocking events of the season 2 finale, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is teasing what’s to come in the final chapter of the Netflix phenomenon, and it’s sure to leave fans speechless.

Season two ends on a devastating note, with Gi-hun’s rebellion against the deadly games crumbling under the weight of betrayal. Front Man, posing as Player 001 under the alias “Young-il”, sabotages the uprising, ultimately killing Gi-hun’s closest ally, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).

Hwang told Netflix’s Tudum, “Audiences will definitely be shocked and very sad to see Jung-bae leave.” He described Jung-bae as “the only person within the games that Gi-hun can trust and rely on completely.”

The season ends with Gi-hun screaming in anguish, believing that both his best friend and “Young-il” are dead. However, the truth remains hidden: In-ho, the Front Man, has been orchestrating the events all along.

Hwang explained, “This was his intention and plan all along. The Front Man begins the season without the mask, but then returns to himself and ends up with the mask again. That moment is really the highlight of season two.”

The next season is set to intensify the ideological battle between Gi-hun and In-ho. While Gi-hun clings to the hope of ending the games and saving lives, In-ho’s nihilistic vision sees players as “trash” with no hope for humanity.

Lee Byung-hun he explained: “It’s almost like they’re betting against each other. The Front Man asks questions like, “Do you really think you’ll be able to beat the game?” Do you really think there is hope in people? Do you think the world will change?’”

Hwang confirmed that season three will serve as the “second chapter of the showdown between Gi-hun and Front Man,” with the season split into two parts.

Gi-hun enters the final season in a state of desperation: “His best friend is gone, they robbed him of everything. He lost everything he had,” he said Lee Jung Jae. This emotional and mental collapse raises crucial questions about Gi-hun’s resolve.

Hwang joked that Gi-hun’s journey may take a darker turn. “Does he still believe that he will be able to convince the others and leave together or end the game?

“Or will he give up and become a completely different person? Someone just like the Front Man, thinking, ‘What can I change?'”

With the third season premiering in late 2025, fans are wondering if Gi-hun will be able to overcome his desperation and outwit Front Man, or will he succumb to the games?
