Many fans were not happy when Disney canceled Star Wars: The Acolyte after just one season, mostly because they were preparing some things for the future that they wanted to see accomplished.
There’s never been a clear answer as to why the series was canceled, but during a recent interview, Disney Entertainment co-president Alan Bergman reveals why it was decided not to move forward with the series.
Bergman told Vulture: “We were happy with our performance, but it wasn’t where we needed it to be, given the cost structure of that title, frankly, to go and make a second season. So that’s why we didn’t do it.
There was some speculation that the backlash was negative Star Wars The community contributed to the decision to cancel the show, but these recent comments are in line with what was previously reported:
“The experts explain it The Acolyte it was canceled because viewership was low and there’s really nothing more to it, although at least one cast member said he was surprised by the decision.
«They told me The Acolyteviewership plummeted after the first two episodes, while with Andorviewership steadily increased throughout the season, so the show was renewed for a second season. Andor also got outstanding reviews, while The Acolyte‘s reviews were more mixed.”
Bergman went on to tease the second and final season of Andor, saying, “It’s excellent. I watched all the episodes and it’s a fantastic season.” He also noted that a second season of Ahsoka is on the way and that it will have “a number of additional series in development.”
When it comes to Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Bergman says he’s “seen some growth in that show” and noted that the series has had “excellent” reviews, adding, “So we’ll have to see how it all goes forward.”
While The Acolyte was a hit with some critics, with a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, it divided Star Wars fans, which was reflected in its overall audience. A lot of Star Wars fans ruined the series and things got really bad for a while.
Regardless, fans of the series have been trying to push for a season 2 with #RenewTheAcolyte, which has been trending on X for a while. But the support wasn’t strong enough to convince Disney to want to do it.
