Marvel’s NOVA series enlists CRIMINAL MINDS showrunner Ed Bernero

Marvel Studios has enlisted the former Criminal minds showrunner Ed Bernero to develop his Nova series for Disney+. He will serve as writer and showrunner on the project.

President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige they previously confirmed they were developing the series, saying: “It’s happening, it’s taking shape. Richard Rider, yes.” When asked if it would be in movie or show format, Feige replied, “A show, yeah, yeah.”

Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaumhe also talked about the project and offers some indication of what we can expect from the tone.

Winderbaum described the Nova series as a “fantastic ensemble piece with a great cast of characters” and indicated that both Richard Rider and Sam Alexander will appear.

He also said the show will have “shades” of both Star Trek AND Battlestar Galacticawhich is something I’m sure fans would appreciate.

Speaking previously about bringing Nova to life, Feige said: “Timing is relative, right? I think I talked about Doctor Strange eight years before that movie came out.

“So ‘immediate potential’ is relative. But clearly, we’re not eschewing the cosmic end of the narrative right at the sweet spot of the Nova Corps and Nova itself.”

He also said, “Nova is… if we have a big board with a group of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board.”

Winderbaum said of the project: “We love Nova. We’re in the early stages of developing Nova. We have a new system behind the scenes at Marvel Studios.

“We’re more like a traditional studio now. We are developing more than we will actually produce. There are plans to develop Nova. I love Nova too. I also love Rich Rider. I hope it makes it to the screen.

“The world is always chaos. There are always things. You have to conjure these things to make them happen, but I’d love to see a Nova show someday.”

In the comics, Richard Rider starts out as an ordinary high school student from Long Island, New York. His life changes when he is chosen by Rhomann Dey, a dying member of the intergalactic Nova Corps, to inherit his powers and the mantle of Nova Prime.

Gifted with superhuman strength, flight, energy projection, and increased durability thanks to the Nova Force, Richard becomes the earthly representative of the Nova Corps, a cosmic peacekeeping organization.
