WICKED: PART TWO officially changes its title, paying homage to one of the best songs of the second act

Wicked: Part One was released last month to huge response from fans and critics alike. Even though many of us knew it would be a two-part film, since the musical is split into parts and there’s lore behind the story to build on, it’s nice that the films were essentially shot back to back , so we don’t know. I don’t have to wait too long.

We’ll see the second movie next Thanksgiving, and this week we got the surprise news that the second movie won’t just be known as “Part Two,” but Evil: forever.

The title is a nod to the duet “For Good,” from the second act of the musical, performed by Elphaba and Glinda. It’s one of the best songs on the show, and it’s the culmination of the two characters’ paths crossing and their lives intertwining.

Jon M. Chu he directed the two parts Evil extravagance, what stars Arianna Grande, Cinzia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh AND Jonathan Bailey. Set before, during and after The Wizard of Ozthe story tells the origins of Grande’s Galinda (later known as Glinda the Good) and Erivo’s Elphaba (eventually nicknamed the Wicked Witch of the West) before Dorothy landed in Oz and set out along the Yellow Brick Road.

First part describes Glinda and Elphaba’s time spent together at Shiz University, where they are forced to be roommates and eventually become best friends. The second film picks up after Elphaba is in full control of her powers and has been declared an enemy of the state by the Wizard (Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Yeoh).

Chu teased the second half of Ozian’s story, telling Variety that the next film is “bullshit” — at least emotionally speaking.

“I didn’t know the context that we would be in in society right now. It becomes eight times more relevant than before when it comes to the truth and consequences of making the right or wrong choices,” he said. “It’s intense.”

Evil: forever will be released in theaters on November 21, 2025.
