There has been a huge question mark over the threequel’s release date Spider-Man: Beyond Spider-Verse for a while now.
It was originally scheduled to release in March 2024, but the studio pushed the release date to 2023 and didn’t give fans a rescheduled date or time frame to expect. Many thought we would see the trilogy conclude in 2025, but now that idea has been shelved as well.
During a recent movie roundup on Deadline, the outlet talked about November and December’s hits and flops in theaters, including the generally panned Sony film Kraven the Hunter.
They explained that Sony blames the strikes and starting and ending production for the cost of producing the film, which is why it isn’t doing well. It has nothing to do with the story, the characters, the direction, or the fact that Sony hasn’t made a decent superhero movie since… ever? But we already know this. However, the report provided some bad news, which had only been speculated upon.
He said of Sony: “They are giving a lot of loving care to others Spider-Verse animated film, with no intention of including that threequel in the 2025 release calendar.”
It’s a shame. But the first two films were so well made that I’m sure the creators are taking their time to finish the trilogy well. It’s noble that despite fans’ disappointment, they aren’t succumbing to studio pressure to release a crappy movie.
I hope all the waiting pays off and we can finish the Spider-Verse animated films on a high note. After all, we have to wait for this movie to come out before we see our Miles Morales in person.
