It seems we still have a long way to go before we see Matt Reeves move on to production Batman: Part II.
James Gunn recently took to social media to deny rumors that Clayface and Scarecrow will appear in the sequel and revealed that a first draft of the script for the sequel hasn’t even been submitted.
I definitely thought about a first draft of the screenplay for Batman: Part II it would have been done by now, so this is amazing news! Pattinson recently joked, “I might actually retire by the end of the movie,” which seems true if the creative team is taking this long to develop the films!
What’s interesting about this comment from Gunn is that it contradicts what Reeves previously shared. A few months ago in a previous interview he said:
“We shared [the script] since we’re getting along with DC, and they’re super excited. It will dig into the epic story of deeper corruption and go to some places [Bruce Wayne] I couldn’t even predict it in the first one.”
So, he actually shared a script with them. So why does Gunn say otherwise? Reeves added: “What was important to me was finding a way to take these pop icons, these mythical characters that everyone knows, and translate them so that Gotham felt like a place in our world.
“We may push ourselves to the edge of the fantastic, but we will never enter the fantastic. It means you feel quite rooted.”
There is still a 2026 release for the sequel and we also know that a third film is planned. The question is whether there really is no complete script for Batman: Part IIwill they actually be able to meet the 2026 date?
