Spider-Verse fans have been very excited about the upcoming film Spider-Man: Beyond Spider-Versewhich will conclude this story of Miles Morales.
The last film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versethey end on such a huge cliffhanger, so fans are eager to see how the story will continue. But the creative team behind the film is taking its time.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant, the film’s star Jharrel Jerome He was asked how things currently stand with the much-delayed sequel, and he confirmed that he hasn’t been called in to record any lines yet.
“I haven’t, but I can’t even say much more because, you know, it’s such a tight ship. I don’t even know much about it.
“I’m as in the dark about it as you are, but I’m excited to get back in and see what they think, especially about my character. That was a really badass twist on the last one.
It’s certainly disappointing to know that they haven’t recorded any lines for the film yet. There have been reports that the project has been experiencing difficulties behind the scenes
It was reported that Sony Pictures had “excised the majority of Beyond The Spider-Verse for creative reasons”. Additionally, the film is “unlikely to be released before 2027.”
Not long after the news broke, the composer of Spider-Verse Daniel Pemberton was quick to dismiss the report by saying, “I would never want to weigh in on this kind of thing BUT would you ever believe that sometimes there might be things on the internet that might not always be particularly accurate? Hmmmm…”
The fact is, however, that the development of the film is proceeding extremely slowly and is behind schedule. Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally scheduled for March 29, 2024, but was taken off the release calendar and currently has no new release date.
Pemberton had previously spoken about the film saying: “As we speak they’re focusing on it and I think the main thing for everyone is we’re so proud of what we’ve done with these films and you want a classic trilogy, you don’t want to let it down, you don’t you want Godfather It.
“We feel extra pressure: in all caps, underlined, with a big exclamation point at the end.”
Pemberton added that he also wants fans to know that the next film will continue to push boundaries and offer something new to audiences.
He said: “I think with these films we’ve always said ‘what do we want to see, what do we want to experience, what will excite us?’ I always think about the audience but about myself as the audience: how will I best respond to this scene?
“If you do it in a way you’ve heard a million times before, it gets boring. I’ve seen it in so many movies: Either you reheat an old meal or you make something fresh, and we’re always trying to figure out how to do the latter. But the bar has been set.”
Producers Phil Lord AND Chris Miller We previously talked about this movie saying, “It will be a very satisfying conclusion. It will deepen even more emotionally the relationships between Miles, Gwen, Peter B., [and Miles’] parents.”
Lord went on to talk about the second film’s cliffhanger ending, in which Miles is stuck in the wrong universe and faces a variant of himself, which appears to be the Prowler.
He said: “The most interesting thing for Miles [in Beyond the Spider-Verse] is it like facing a sense of betrayal and turning it into something affirming?
“And I think what we try to do with these films is portray goodness and show how the love that the characters in the film have for Miles translates into his growth and success.”
Speaking about the film’s release, Miller said, “I would say that just like we’re going to take the time to make Beyond the Spider-Verse great. And we’re not going to go back on a release date that doesn’t fit.”
It’s clear we have a long wait ahead of us, but I’m excited to see how this story ends.
