Aaron Taylor-Johnson says KRAVEN THE HUNTER’s violent action scenes ‘crossed boundaries’

Kraven the Hunter It’ll go all out with brutal, bloody violence, and seemingly earns its R rating with the ferocity of its action scenes.

During an interview with GamesRadar+, director JC Chandor and star Aaron Taylor-Johnson talked about the intense action scenes. Chandor said:

“The stunts had to be spectacular. There was a sort of relentlessness to the character that we both noticed. He never seems to give up. I really wanted the stunts, from the very beginning of the design, to have a real-life feel to them.

“You can get away with doing anything right now with the technology we have, so it’s almost about limiting what the character can do. And then you have this guy [referring to Taylor-Johnson].

“He is simply a physically gifted artist. It’s a lump of clay that you can do a lot of really cool things with!”

Taylor-Johnson then added: “I think even a hard R [rating] it meant we didn’t need to hold back. We were trying to fit him into that box and then it was like we had to liberate this character and do him justice.

“They let us turn it into an R and we definitely pushed the envelope!”

Now, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… it’s not the rating or how brutal the action scenes are that make a movie good. It’s all about the strength of the script and the story they tell.

Hopefully the creative team can tell a decent story. The director believes he has created a “good damn story”, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), sets him on a path of revenge with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the world’s greatest hunter, but also one of the most feared.

Kraven the Hunter will premiere exclusively in theaters on December 13, 2024.
