Oscar nominated director Luca Guadagnino he has worked with many of Hollywood’s most acclaimed young actors in films such as Call me by your name, Suspiria, Bones and allAND Challengers. But one project he wanted to do was a starring Spider-Man movie The Extraordinary Spider-Man actor, Andrea Garfield.
At this week’s Marrakech Film Festival, which Variety attended, Garfield appeared on a panel hosted by Guadagnino, who followed Garfield’s remarks about starring in the superhero franchise, saying he found Spider-Man a “superhero fascinating”.
“I remember when Sam Raimi he directed his first one, and I was 28 or 29, having these dreams because I’m kind of a megalomaniac, and I wish I’d been asked to do one.
“So I wish I had directed you here Spider-Man,” Guadagnino said, looking at Garfield who was sitting to his left. Guadagnino just directed Garfield in the thriller After the huntalso starring Julia Roberts.
Guadagnino didn’t get to make that film then, but with the popularity of Garfield’s return to the franchise, maybe he’ll get his wish after all. While that ship has probably sailed, a boy can dream.
