Director KRAVEN THE HUNTER thinks he’s created a “damn story” and explains how

I have to say, I’m not all that excited about Sony Pictures’ next Marvel movie Kraven the Hunter. Sure, it’s an R-rated movie that will be full of blood and violence, but that doesn’t mean it will be a good story.

Fans have been burned by Sony too many times to think that they will actually make a truly great Marvel movie, but director JC Chandor he thinks he’s made a solid movie that tells a “damn story.”

During a recent interview with CB, he talked about how he did this and revealed that he took a more grounded approach to the cinematic world of comics that emphasizes quality storytelling over universe-building.

He explained: “I don’t want to give away too many plot points, but the way our movie is structured, the rest of these worlds don’t really matter.

“If I told this version of the story really damn well and aimed for the quality of the storytelling and then with Aaron [Taylor-Johnson] and our action team and the stuff that we came up with, I think people are going to be really excited about it… But my goal was to isolate our movie, protect it, and just tell, you know, a good damn story.”

Chandlor continued, “It’s a very grounded story…my favorite plots in the Spider-Man world are street-level stories.

“Obviously there are some storylines that end up in space and all that, but ours doesn’t. It’s very much based here, here in our world.

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Set before his infamous revenge with Spider-Man, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven.

In Kraven the Hunter, Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove himself as the world’s greatest hunter. Taylor-Johnson called the project “a Marvel film strongly anchored in the real world. We know he is a ferocious hunter, a highly trained killer.” He enthusiastically proclaimed, “Fuck yes, it will be rated R!”

The film’s screenplay was written by Art Marco AND Matt Holloway (Iron Man), and is also the protagonist Ariana De Bose like Calypso, Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff, Fred Hechinger in the role of Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola like a bad stranger, Levi Miller, AND Capture-22 star Christopher Abbott as the main villain, The Foreigner.

Kraven the Hunter film in theaters nationwide on December 13, 2024.
