Here’s a fun trailer for the action-packed horror comedy Midgieswhich is about Scotland’s most infamous little terror… “elevated to a whole new level of fear”.
The description reads: “Japan has Godzilla, America has King Kong, but Scotland’s real monsters are much smaller and much more relentless. Move over Loch Ness: the MIDGIES are the real threat.”
The film is inspired by iconic titles such as Jaws, The host, PredatorAND Dawn of the Dead. The creative team aims to “make audiences connect with our characters in a story where humor heightens tension without undermining the stakes. Our teaser trailer offers a taste of what we have in store with this feature.”
In case you were wondering, midges “are tiny blood-sucking insects also known as ‘see-ums,’ ‘punkies,’ and ‘biting midges.”
“Although they can be found all over the world, the Scottish Highland biting midge is particularly well known. These relentless creatures hunt using CO2 exhaled by humans and animals, swarming their targets and resulting in countless itchy bites that make Scottish outdoor life a real challenge during the summer months.”
It is explained that the film Midgies “was born from an idea tweet by writer Barry Hutchison, which went viral in the national press in 2023.
“With the feature film we aim to shoot next year, director Alessio Avezzano teamed up with indie studio Mythic Picnic to bring this vision to life. We created this teaser to build more excitement and show what’s to come.”
