Arcane’s Fortiche animation studio has already received a lot of praise for its stunning animation, but this new revelation about one of its heartbreaking scenes is incredibly interesting to learn about!

Fortiche shared an image on X of the scene from the season 2 premiere featuring Caitlyn (Katie Leung) mourns the loss of her mother after Jinx’s attack on Piltover Council.

It came with the note: “Did you know that this clip of Caitlyn was entirely hand-drawn with charcoal?” A huge round of applause to our incredible artists for bringing every detail to life! Illustration by Fortiche artists Julien Georgel, Kevin Le Moigne and Anne-Laure To.”

You can see the image below for yourself, and be sure to note that the only color in the scene involves the purple violets adorning Cassandra’s coffin and the red streaks in Vi’s hair.

We just don’t see this kind of thing in animation! Who uses coal in their animated projects!? Nobody except the team behind Arcane.
