Josh Brolin says if Denis Villeneuve isn’t nominated for DUNE 2 he’ll stop acting

Josh Brolin is as popular in Hollywood as he’s ever been, with more than one role in the Marvel universe, an Oscar nomination under his belt, a recently concluded popular TV series, a hit streaming comedy, and the sci-fi epic Dune films that end with awards season in mind. He also just released his memoir “From Under the Truck,” for which he is making the publicity rounds.

Brolin also has several high-profile projects in the works, but for now he’s focused on his hopes for what the next few months will bring.

In a recent interview with Variety, the actor spoke about his disappointment that the Oscars ruined everything when they failed to nominate his Dune director Denis Villeneuve for the sci-fi epic of the first part of 2021.

Villeneuve is once again in the race for supervision awards this year Duna: second partthe rare sequel that got better reviews than the original. Brolin plays Gurney Halleck, mentor to Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.

Brolin said of his director and friend:

“If he doesn’t get nominated this year, I’ll stop acting. It was a better film than the first. When I watched it, I felt like my brain had been split open. It’s masterful and Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards have any meaning, they will recognize it.”

There’s a lot at stake. But he is enthusiastic about Villeneuve’s place among the candidates, and I respect that.

Brolin has finished production on the third film in the Knives Out saga, entitled Wake up, dead manand will hit theaters in 2025. We’ll also see Brolin appear next year in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the Stephen King film The running manin which he will star alongside Glen Powell, Katy O’Brian and Lee Pace.
