President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige recently offered some comments on the future of the MCU and the introduction of the X-Men.
During the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige spoke about bringing the X-Men into the MCU, saying, “I think you’ll see that continue in our next movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize.”
He then revealed; “Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars it really brings us into a new era of mutants and the X-Men. Still, [it’s] one of those dreams comes true. We finally have the X-Men again.”
All we know about the next X-Men movie is that the screenplay was written by Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes).
Feige continued to think Deadpool and Wolverinesaying, “When we first started working on the movie, we wanted to see Wolverine in a yellow costume. I had goosebumps on set when he came out wearing that costume and put on that mask for the first time. I waited 25 years to bring it to life.”
When it comes to Lightning*he described it as “the essence of Marvel. Taking characters from all different kinds of places and franchises and putting them together. That’s what the Avengers are, that’s what the Guardians of the Galaxy are.”
Marvel Studios has had the rights to the X-Men for about five years now, but bringing them into the MCU is something they’ve taken their time with.
Their biggest film yet involving the X-Men and mutants is Deadpool and Wolverinebut I have a feeling that when they introduce the X-Men into the MCU, things will look very different. We’ll just have to be patient as we wait and see what Marvel’s plan is.
What do you hope to see from Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie?
