As Disney continues to face major public relations issues due to Snow White star Rachel ZeglerForbes revealed that the budget for the film had increased to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023.
That doesn’t include marketing costs, which could be $100 million to $200 million more. It is explained that the film will likely have to gross well over $400 million worldwide to break even. So, the pressure is on for the film to be a big success at the box office.
That won’t be easy considering all the bad press surrounding the film’s star, and the first trailer that was released did little to excite audiences. In fact, the trailer has gotten over a million dislikes on YouTube.
An insider had already spoken about the film, saying: “Disney had to delay Snow White because they spent so much money on it, and if it were a financial disaster at the box office, it could single-handedly cripple future remakes and potential Snow White sequels they have planned.
The insider also said: “They also need to get the bad taste out of online critics’ mouths and instead want to deliver a great film and get to the point where they do it well. They realize they were overthinking things and are now reigning it all in a little more.”
Zegler received a lot of backlash during the making of the live-action film when he criticized the original Disney animated film, saying that the director Marc Webb’s the approach to the story will be a little more enlightened regarding the female protagonist and will be more of a leader type character.
The actress said that the original film features the prince basically haunting Snow White and called the whole thing “strange”, also noting that the entire focus is on Snow White’s romance rather than her personal development.
She said: “I just want to say it’s not 1937 anymore. We absolutely wrote a Snow White who… won’t be saved by the prince and won’t dream of true love; he dreams of becoming the leader he knows he can be.
Zegler also recently had some heated things to say about Trump and those who voted for him after the election, but she has since apologized for those comments.
He said: “May Trump supporters, Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace” and “there is a deep, deep disease in this country,” as well as “four more years of hate, which will give us they push towards a world that I don’t want to live in.”
His apology reads: “Hi everyone, I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on Instagram last week. I let my emotions get the best of me. Hatred and anger have led us further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry for having contributed to the negative discourse.
“This week has been emotional for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even when it is different from mine. I am committed to contributing positively to a better tomorrow.”
It is a live-action musical retelling of the classic 1937 film. The story follows a princess who is saved by seven dwarf miners, Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy, who make Snow White part of their family after being exiled to a dangerous forest by her evil queen.
The film is also the protagonist Gal Gadotwho plays the Evil Queen, Ansu Kabia in the role of the Hunter, Martin Klebba like Grumpy, e Andrea Burnap as Jonathan.
Marc Webb (The Extraordinary Spider-Man) directs Snow White from a screenplay by Barbie director Greta Gerwig and playwright Erin Cressida Wilson.
Snow White is now scheduled for theatrical release on March 21, 2025. Good luck to Disney making their money back.
