A new interview with Deadpool and Wolverine actress Dafne Keen surfaced thanks to Moviefone and in it they share some new footage of her as Laura, aka X-23.
Keen has previously expressed interest in reprising his role for further MCU adventures, but continued to share his excitement at the possibility of returning, saying he’s “really hoping to get the call… even if it’s just for a little, stupid cameo.” .
She went on to add, “I’ve said it a zillion times, I would play Laura for the rest of my life and be happy. She’s the most incredible character to play.”
The video includes some behind-the-scenes footage that I’ve never seen before, and it looks like Laura’s fireside scene with Logan was originally supposed to be longer.
In the scene, we see both characters unsheath their claws in reaction to someone approaching, and there’s also some new dialogue with Laura, who tells the Wolverine variant that it’s good to see him again.
Keen previously said: “I would love to come back. I would pay them to come back. Playing Laura was the greatest honor of my life.
“For me we’ve only scratched the surface with her as she’s a very complex character. It’s so beautiful, just from a fan’s perspective.”
I would love for Marvel Studios to tell a standalone X-23 story because she’s an interesting character who deserves to be explored more.
There was an X-23 movie planned at one point when Fox still owned the rights to it and Logan director James Mangold he was working on a story, but nothing ever came of it. The film was scrapped after Disney took over.
Creator of the X-23 Craig Kyle previously shared his thoughts on where the story should go, saying, “We know that children are created and tested. I’d love to see some of the stories we’ve told [in the comics]see as much as we can about how she came to be, but then really get into the stories of what she was forced to do and commit to.
“He said he killed people. He said bad people. Most of those that X-23 and Laura killed in the comics were bad people, but she did kill some children. He killed a whole bunch of journalists.
“I think there’s something powerful about seeing her face those horrors with no say and no ability not to take those actions.
“A story I’ve always wanted to tell is that, once she’s free and has gone through what she’s gone through, the only way she can have hope for a future is to go back and track down the lives that are left and that have been damaged by the actions she was forced to commit.
“You put her on this journey of redemption. Address families who have lost fathers. The orphans, all those who were touched by his horrible acts. And she can cross them one by one and face all the people affected by the murders she was forced to commit, if she can get to the end of that road without being killed by those who remain, there is something on the other side. I think it would be really transformative for the character.”
Do you think Marvel will bring back X-23 for any future projects? You can see the interview and clip in the video below.
