After it was reported that game of Thrones star Sophie Turner she was auditioning for the role of Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-PonteIt’s live action tomb Raider series, Deadline reports that the actress is now officially in talks to star.
There were a couple of actors on the studio’s wish list, including Deadpool and Wolverine star Emma Corrin AND Don’t speak badly’S Mackenzie Davisbut it looks like Turner will end up filling the role. Seems like a great choice for the character.
The series has previously been described as an “epic” and “world-spanning” series, and Amazon chief MGM Studios Jennifer Salke he added, “If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think it would explode.”
Salke chimed in, “We think it’s going to be a huge franchise for us. tomb Raider it’s really exciting and Phoebe is well involved and works closely with [Tomb Raider general manager] Dallas Dickinson and the producers of the game, and it will be very exciting.
“But I don’t have any [new updates]… When we look at a long-term commitment to a creator like Phoebe, we’re so happy now that we chose her because she’s obsessed with and grew up playing Lara Croft/Tomb Raider.
“So her being the creator and bringing this character to life, we think it’s going to be a huge franchise for us. She went to make a movie, things happened: if people want to do a rundown of which deals managed to get value or not, there’s probably more to be done there.
“But I think we’re trying to convert a lot of these deals into a very performance-based model, based on what they get. And that was very well received because you have to change with the times.
Salke previously said: “tomb Raider it’s been an important part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to bring it to television with such passionate collaborators.
He continued, “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as it does to many, and I can’t wait to begin this adventure. Bats and all.
Previously, speaking about the project, Waller-Bridge said: “There’s so much I can incorporate. I mean, the character of Lara Croft was inspired by Indiana Jones and James Bond.
“So there’s so much, and it felt like the perfect final step in my personal adventure through this kind of franchise world. I love the idea of, as Steven Spielberg describes it, the greatest show on Earth, like being able to do things on that scale and have such big adventures and that the comedy and the heart are matched, but on this kind of excellent, excellent quality.
“And, really, through all the adventures I learned from those [franchises]it’s actually about keeping something grounded and allowing it to be bigger than itself in some way. And so I hope that everything translates perfectly, seamlessly Tomb Raider.“
Amazon Studios will also develop a new tomb Raider movies and video games.
