In the following years Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been released, Lucasfilm has announced several Star Wars projects with several directors attached to them and none of them took off.
The only film that managed to enter production is Jon Favreau AND Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian and Grogu film, currently filming. But there were many other projects that didn’t get that far.
Currently there are several Star Wars films in development that overlap with characters or timelines. THR points out in a recent report that while these films are unrelated, “whatever comes out first could, in a domino effect, impact subsequent ones.”
He then underlines it James Mangold’S Dawn of the Jedi the exception is the film which will take us back to the dawn of the Jedi, 25,000 years before the events of the original trilogy, and will focus on the birth of the Force.
He also said that some of the directors working on these projects at Lucasfilm are aware of what others are working on, but then there are others who have no idea what others are working on. So, it seems like there’s a bit of a lack of communication.
A member of the studio explained: “It’s a different way of development. There is so much parallel work going on.”
As we all know, George LucasThe Star Wars films are considered the Old Testament of the franchise, and as the report points out, “nothing has been codified or made more canonical in modern times than these three films.”
A Lucasfilm source spoke of this saying: “You’re asked to create the new New Testament, and no one can agree on anything and there’s a lot of second-guessing about the meanings.”
Another source familiar with the process is more business-minded and notes: “Star Wars it’s a nostalgia-based business, and they’re running out of ways to create nostalgia.
Yes, it seems Lucasfilm is a big mess and the reason they can’t get anything off the ground is because no one can agree on anything! These guys just need to get their shit together and come up with a plan to move forward with the film side of things.
Seriously, there’s no reason why Lucasfilm shouldn’t have put out great movies Star Wars in recent years. They simply have the wrong people running things.
Another insider adds: “Making standalone films or continuing the Skywalker saga in any form is a key issue facing the company as it seeks to move forward.”
As a longtime fan of Star WarsIt’s not hard for me to see a clear path for where Lucasfilm could take the franchise, I’m sure many fans have their own ideas about where they’d like to see it go. Lucasfilm’s vision, however, is all over the place, and they can’t figure out or agree on how to execute it.
