We’re in the middle of Cobra Kaiis the final season of 15 episodes and we are currently waiting for Season 6, Part 2, which will consist of five more episodes.
During a recent interview with io9, the creators Jon Hurwitz, Josh HealdAND Hayden Schlossberg talked about various aspects of the show, including what we can expect from the final episodes and the future of the franchise once the show ends.
When asked what fans can expect from the show’s final five episodes, Heald joked: “Wow. We are enormously proud of what we have achieved in the last five.
“It will meet every cliffhanger we have prepared. And it will go places you don’t expect. I’ll just say, after watching the last five numerous times, it picks up and then picks up a speed, a rhythm, a momentum that I don’t think we’ve ever done… particularly the last three.
“I’ll just say, prepare yourselves. Hydrate. Because you’ll probably want to watch all five in one sitting. It will be difficult to take down.”
So it’s exciting to listen to it! I can’t wait to see how this show ends and where these characters end up.
When asked about the future of the franchise and what will happen after Cobra Kai ends, Heald said, “There’s always a possibility. Look, you can start checking the list of things we haven’t done until the last five and we still haven’t done it.
“So that’s a possibility. And there are other possibilities. I will say that everything we do is born from intent and everything we do is born from love for this story, this world and this universe.
“And, you know, as we sunset this series, let’s hope we don’t sunset the universe. We have many plans on how to continue in this regard.
“So if you don’t see something in the last five episodes that you really had your fingers crossed and were hoping for, rest assured that it’s something that we hope to have the opportunity to revisit in the future as well.”
Schlossberg added: “I’m not sure there will be any updates before the last five episodes, other than we always say we’re thinking and working on things and that includes working with [Karate Kid writer and creator] Robert Mark Kamen on things.
“We love this world and it’s bittersweet for us to have to end the show, so there’s this creative need to continue it in some way, but nothing official to say.
Heald then concluded by saying: I hope that in the next few months there is something official to share and talk about, but you know for now that there is not.
One thing we know is coming is new Karate Kid: Legends movie with Ralph Macchio AND Jackie Chanbut apparently the creators of Cobra Kai aren’t really involved in this.
While I can’t wait to see the movie, I’m much more interested in something that continues Johnny Lawrence’s story. So I hope there’s a future there.
