Ryan Reynolds confirms he tried to bring Nicolas Cage back as Ghost Rider in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

While Deadpool and Wolverine was still in development before the filmmakers actually began shooting the film, it was rumored that Nicolas Cage he would reprise his role as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider.

As you know, Ghost Rider didn’t appear in the film, but some concept art has surfaced that shows the creative team wanted the character involved at one point.

Now, during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that he attempted to convince Nicolas Cage to reprise his role as the Spirit of Vengeance again.

Reynolds said: “They were in early drafts. We had versions of them [sequence]but then when it all started, you’re kind of looking at… We’re also trying to make the film responsibly. It’s a big budget.

“It’s the biggest budget of all the Deadpool movies, but you want to give yourself just as many constraints, which I think really facilitates asymmetrical thinking and creativity.

“If you have too much time or too much money, this kind of creativity is usually killed. So yes, you’re making things small.

“But we talked to Nic Cage. We tried to get him, but he was useless… I would have loved him.”

So if Cage had said yes, it looks like Ghost Roder would have actually been in the movie and it would have been crazy! The fans would have gone crazy! It’s a shame they couldn’t work things out to make it happen.

Regardless, the film was full of great cameos that fans loved to include Jennifer Garner (Electra), Wesley Snipes (Blade) e Channing Tatumwho played Gambit.

Director Shaw Levy added, “Luckily we got a lot of yeses. Especially because Ryan would call them directly. He would often ambush them on FaceTime and corner them.”

Cage previously said he was open to returning to the role, saying: “I’m not saying no completely. I’m saying that if something came along that I thought had some panache, some spark, that maybe would be fun for people to revisit, like Face/Off 2 or Ghost Rider, that would be another conversation.

It remains to be seen whether Cage will ever return as Ghost Rider, but there are rumors that he could appear Avengers: Secret Wars together with the Fox characterss X-Men AND The Fantastic Four movie.
