Netflix and the Duffer brothers have released a new teaser that confirms that we will finally see the long-awaited fifth and final season of Stranger things in 2025.
The video was released this week on November 6 as a throwback to November 6, 1983, aka “Stranger things Day” — the day Will Byers (Noah Grappa) was kidnapped in the Upside Down in the first episode.
The video also reveals the titles of the eight episodes of the fifth season, which include “The Crawl”, “The Vanishing of…”, “The Turnbow Trap”, “Sorcerer”, “Shock Jock”, “Escape From Camazotz”, “The bridge” and “The right side”.
Some of these titles allude to previous episodes: “The Vanishing of…” recalls the series premiere “The Vanishing of Will Byers”. Fans online have already speculated that the new abductee could be Holly Wheeler, Mike’s younger sister (Finn Wolfhard) which has reportedly been recast with the “Evil Dead Rise” actor. Nell Fisherbut Netflix has not officially confirmed.
The season one finale was titled “The Upside Down,” the name of the phantasmagorical alternate dimension connected to Hawkins, so it’s fitting that the title of the series finale, “The Rightside Up,” is the opposite. And the title of the penultimate episode, “The Bridge,” evokes such curious titles as season four’s “The Piggyback” and season two’s “The Gate.”
“The Turnbow Trap” likely refers to Hawkins’ business called Turnbow Land Development & Realty; Series co-creator Ross Duffer posted an Upside Down billboard for the company on Instagram in March. “Shock Jock,” meanwhile, likely refers to WSQK, a radio station that appears (again, courtesy of Ross Duffer’s posts) to be part of the season.
Then there’s “Escape From Camazotz,” which is presumably a reference to Madeleine L’Engle’s seminal science fiction novel. A wrinkle in timein which the planet Camazotz is under the unyielding control of nefarious entities known as the Black Thing and IT. What Camazotz refers to in Stranger thingsand who might escape, remains to be seen.
Another detail in the video is the reveal that the season takes place in the fall of 1987, four years after the events of the first season, which debuted eight years ago, in 2016.
