The TERMINATOR: DARK FATE director reflects on the decision to cast assassin John Connor

After directing the first one Dead Pool movies, Tim Miller jumped in Terminator franchising alongside James Cameron Do Terminator: Dark Fate.

Dark destiny it wasn’t a huge box office success, but it was definitely one of the best Terminator films that have been made since then Terminator 2 was released and received many positive reviews from fans and critics.

It was really cool to see the stars of the original franchise Arnold Schwarzenegger AND Linda Hamilton together again on screen. But there were moments in the film that didn’t work for fans.

One of the big creative decisions that fans didn’t like was when a T-800 killed a young John Connor, creating a new timeline.

Speaking to Variety, Miller reflected on this, saying: “No one sets out to ignore someone’s closely guarded childhood dreams. It’s not cause for vitriol. A lot of people didn’t like that Terminator: Dark Fate for reasons I had nothing to do with.

“One, because it was the sixth movie and another because we killed off John Connor in the beginning, but if Jim Cameron wants that to happen – which I agree with by the way – then that’s what you do.”

Cameron previously took responsibility Terminator: Dark Fates failures. He said: “Our problem wasn’t that the movie didn’t work. The problem was that people weren’t showing up. I confessed that to Tim Miller many times. I said, ‘I torpedoed that movie before we even wrote it.’ a word or a meter of film.””

Cameron said he started “getting high on my stash” by creating a direct Terminator 2 sequel, and I was leaning too much on the return of Arnold Schwarzeneggerit’s the T-800 ee Linda HamiltonIt’s Sarah Connor.

He explained: “We achieved our goal. We made a real sequel to a film where the people who actually went to the cinema at the time the film came out were all dead, retired, crippled or suffering from dementia. It was a non-starter. There was nothing in the film for a new audience.”

Cameron is now working on a Terminator reboot that will do away with everything that came before. It will be a completely new and fresh take on the franchise.
