Deadpool and Wolverinehe is co-editor Dean Zimmerman recently spoke about his experience with the meeting Chris Evans to tell him about his hilarious post-credits scene as the Human Torch.
I actually wondered what Evans’ initial reaction to that scene was and now we know. Zimmer recalled the meeting during an interview with CinemaBlend.
She said, “I specifically remember when it happened. We were filming on that New York Street. Chris came to the set. He came into New York Street just to come and say hello.”
“We had met for the first time and we were sitting in the barber shop on New York Street. And Ryan was literally saying, ‘Hey Chris, I have this idea for this tail at the end.’
“You say part of the dialogue here, but this is what you actually say, which I will repeat later. Would you be willing to do that?'”
Zimmerman added: “[Chris Evans] he says, “I am willing to do whatever you want me to do.” And he literally received the pages that day! Chris read them and memorized them. It was like a recovery. He did it a couple of times and that was it. There were three cameras and that was it.”
I liked that Evans came back to play Johnny Storm Deadpool and Wolverineand what they did with him in the movie was insanely wild and fun!
Director Shawn Levy he previously spoke about the scene, saying, “We expected Chris to need a lot of reshoots because that was a page of super dirty, mile-a-minute language. Chris came in, he was out of the box, he did everything in two takes, he made us laugh out loud, and that’s what you see in the movie.
“I think Chris had a lot of fun, and I know our movie benefits from Chris playing Johnny very differently than Cap. Gone is the righteous nobility and cleanliness of Captain America. This is a Johnny Storm with Boston influences and inspired by Chris Evans.
“I feel like he’s more Chris than the original Chris Evans. Chris is a boy from Boston. I should go back and watch the original The Fantastic Fourbut I don’t think he played Johnny as the boy from Boston like he did Deadpool and Wolverine – and for me it is perfection.”
Ryan Reynolds he previously shared a tribute to Evans saying, “Thank you, @chrisevans. Some of the greatest moments I’ve ever had in a theater were written by this guy. Some of the hardest laughs I’ve ever had have come from listening to Chris tell a story, about anything.
“And it got me again this year. Chris is one of those movie stars who is actually better than you hope he is. And people hold it to a crazy standard. It’s simply the best ever.
“Part of the theme of the film is saying goodbye… And one of the gifts of working on the film is that we have to say goodbye on different terms. Seeing Johnny Storm (even if only for a short time) was like seeing someone you miss come back from the dead in a dream.
“Too short and too adorable to be real. Goodbyes are difficult. It was hard to say goodbye to Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm. But at least this time we can really say it.
“On the other hand, it wouldn’t have been necessary if he hadn’t talked to Cassandra with his big mouth. Or if he hadn’t zipped his skin, letting his organs splatter brutally to the ground, as the ground hungrily drank his blood. It was horrible.
“Jonathan Lowell Spencer Storm: We love you. Wherever you are, I’m sure you are thriving. #ExtinguishedFlame”
