The director of TRICK ‘R TREAT offers an update on the long-awaited sequel and It’s Not Dead

It wouldn’t be Halloween season if we didn’t talk about it Trick or treat 2 at some point. This is a sequel that horror fans have been wanting to see made for years, and for some reason, it just can’t get off the ground!

Director Michael Dougherty offered an update below on the commentary of the recently released Trick ‘r Treat 4K Ultra HD edition.

In a new comment Doughtery confirms that he wrote the screenplay for Trick ‘r Treat 2 with his collaborators Krampus Todd Casey AND Zach Shields and the storyboard is already there, but producing it within the studio system was difficult.

He said: “It’s tricky, because I think we really managed to capture lightning in a bottle with this one, and it almost killed me. What many people don’t realize is that most of our favorite horror films, especially those that introduced new horror icons, were all independent films.

“There aren’t the typical parameters that a studio can aim for to make an easy ‘yes’. Something I was adamant about in the sequel was that it had to maintain this non-linear narrative, [and] it has to maintain that strange mix of horror and comedy.”

Dougherty continues: “I want to do it. He’s definitely not dead. We definitely have momentum moving in the right direction, but I also believe that I won’t compromise or make sacrifices just to make a sequel.

“You need to be in the right conditions with the right resources. Otherwise, I’ll be content to just let this be this weird little movie that made its way through a lot of adversity. But I’m very, very happy with the script of the sequel.”

Well, it’s nice to know that the project isn’t dead, but it sucks to know that there’s really no movement on it right now.

Legendary Pictures officially announced the sequel in 2013 and it’s crazy that after that announcement, after a script was completed, the studio is still dragging its feet on this thing! I hate the Hollywood studio system and the people who run it.
