Christopher Lee’s voice will be used in THE LORD OF THE RINGS: WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM

Christopher Lee’s voice will be used in the WB’s upcoming Middle Earth anime film The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim. Lee played Saruman in the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy and also appeared in The Hobbit films, but the character will return The Rohirrim Warwith Lee’s voice, which is unexpected but awesome!

During an interview with The One Ring, writer and producer Filippa Boyens explained how they were able to use Lee’s voice for the part of Saruman in the film, and no, it wasn’t an AI thing.

Boyens explained that after receiving a letter from Lee before he died and speaking with his late widow, Birgit Kroencke, they decided to use an old recording from the archives.

She said: “[Kroecke agreed that] Sir Christopher would have wanted it and so we analyzed his archives. I went back and heard his voice not only saying the lines, but also talking to us while we recorded them.”

The rediscovered recordings came from one of Lee’s later performances in The Hobbit franchising. Boyens explained:

“We based it on a quote from The Hobbitwhich is, “Do you require assistance, my lady?” or something like that – a version of that phrase. And we thought, okay, this is a line where we can see how many takes he did.

“Can we use it? Can we find a new reading and change it a little? And our brilliant kids did. But it’s an authentic piece of Christoper Lee’s performance based on that line.”

As they tried to make it, they started looking for a replacement voice actor in case it didn’t work out. But in the end they realized that there was no one who could replace Christopher Lee.

Set 183 years before the events of the original film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim tells the “fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary king of Rohan”.

“A sudden attack from Wulf, a cunning and ruthless Dunland lord seeking revenge for his father’s death, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient hold of Hornburg, a mighty fortress which later became known as Helm’s Deep.

“Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, Helm’s daughter, must find the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy bent on their total destruction.”

The film comes from the award-winning director Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus AND Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series).

The voice cast includes Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, the king of Rohan, Gaia Saggia like Héra of Rohan, Luca Pasqualino as Wulf, Lorraine Ashbourne (from Netflix Bridgerton), Yazdan Qafouri (I came), Benjamin Wainwright (BBC One World on fire), Laurence Ubong Williams (Brings), Shaun Dooley (from Netflix The witcher), Michael Wildmann (Presentations Fast and the Furious: Hobbs & Shaw), Jude Akuwudike (Beasts without a nation), Bilal Hasna (BBC Sparks), AND Janine Duvitski (by ITV Benidorm).

The executive producers are Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Sam Register, Carolyn Blackwood AND Toby Emmerich.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim will be released theatrically worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures on December 13, 2024 and internationally on December 11, 2024.
