“Show me the power of darkness once again, and I will let nothing stand in our way…”
Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm have announced a new comic book series titled Star Wars: Vader’s Legacyand will continue to explore Kylo Ren, because I imagine there are fans out there who are still interested in that villain.
The story “begins with a journey to Mustafar, where Ren will descend on Vader’s castle. Subsequent issues will bring Kylo into the familiar sands of Tatooine as he tries to unlock the secrets of his family’s past.
The comic will be written by Charles Soule (Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren AND Star Wars: Darth Vader – The Dark Lord of the Sith).
Soule said in an interview with StarWars.com: “When fans talk to me about my work on Star Wars, two of my Marvel comics come up more than anything else: my 2017 Darth Vader series starring Giuseppe Camuncoli and my series of 2019”. The Rise of Kylo Ren with Will Sliney.
“I think they both worked so well, partly because they were set in parts of the Star Wars timeline full of unanswered questions about the characters audiences truly love. This new series is not only a combination of these two books, but also an opportunity to explore an extremely rich section of the timeline that is almost entirely open: Kylo Ren’s time as Supreme Leader of the First Order.
“Set amidst the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi AND Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Vader’s legacy revisits Kylo’s enduring bond with his maternal grandfather, the Empire’s enforcer Darth Vader, and further explores how events from Vader’s past guide Kylo’s choices as he leads the First Order.
“Kylo is really lost in this particular moment. In a very short amount of time, he has faced two of his most important mentors in combat (one of whom is his uncle), killed his father, almost killed his mother, stolen control of a galactic-wide army of which he does not he has an idea. how he will use and, of course, he has found a deep connection with another Force user named Rey.
“All of this swirls in his emotional matrix, making him profoundly unstable, angry, frustrated… dangerous. He’s looking for whatever guidance he can get, even if he won’t admit it, and so he turns to pretty much the only thing he has left, the legacy of his grandfather, the Sith Lord Darth Vader.
You can check out a preview of the comic below with art by Luke Ross, who worked on it Star Wars: Darth Vader AND The War of the Bounty Hunters. I also included the cover of Derrick Chew and a variant cover of Annie Wu.
