Netflix has released the trailer for the baseball documentary series The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox. The documentary chronicles one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, when the Boston Red Sox overcame a 3-0 Series deficit to defeat their arch-rivals, the New York Yankees, en route to winning their first World Series title in 86 years old and breaking the infamous “The Curse of the Child”.
This is a three-part series that “celebrates the 20th anniversary of the team’s groundbreaking postseason run with new and exclusive interviews with key players and figures, including: Pedro Martínez, David Ortiz, Kevin Millar, Terry FranconaAND Theo Epsteinamong many others.”
The film was directed by Colin Barniclewho said in a statement: “This series isn’t just about the 2004 ALCS. This is the finale. As fans, we know what happened. I want them to know how it happened: how an organization changed under new ownership, how the team was built by the front office and how the clubhouse came together.
“It’s not a straight line after 86 years of defeats against the champions. Sometimes it’s funny. Sometimes it’s heartbreaking. There have been significant obstacles along the way. But how those trials and tribulations defined the team’s decision-making and chemistry is how they managed to rally from three games into the ALCS. It didn’t start with the fourth game of the ALCS.” –
The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox will be released on Netflix on October 23, 2024.
