DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE editors reveal the insane cost of Wolverine’s brown and tan suit

Deadpool and Wolverine publishers Dean Zimmerman AND Shane Reid they recently sat down for an interview with CBM and during their discussion they talked about creating the Wolverine variant sequence in the film. This is where they revealed the crazy cost to get Wolverine’s brown and tan suit in the movie.

In the film we see Deadpool travel across the multiverse in search of Wolverine who can help him in his mission. We see him meet the likes of Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, Old Man Logan and even a version of the clawed mutant donning John Byrne’s classic brown and tan suit for a fight with the Hulk!

When asked about reports they came up with the idea to add those Wolverine variants when work on the film was on pause during the Hollywood strikes, Dean and Shane explained their creative process and said that creating the suit brown and tan was $100,000!

Dean said: “One of our storyboard artists was a big fan of the comics and gave us a list of about ten of them. There were also, and perhaps no one really likes to hear this, time and budget issues you had to deal with.

“Here’s a perfect example: We spent about $100,000 making that brown and tan dress. They are expensive. To build this kind of thing… we have to be a little parsimonious with what we might actually invent and do.

“So yeah, ‘Hugh, can you take your shirt off to be nailed to a cross?’ “Yeah, I can do that, no problem.” “Great, let’s get a bunch of pink skulls, throw them over there and light it up like in the comics.” They were all thought out but also made with budget and time in mind.

“Once filming resumed, the deadline for this film was very tight. When we went back to photography in London, we had a limited amount of time and even though we were coming up with all these ideas, when we came back, we were like, “Hey everyone, we’re going to do this,” and everyone’s heads are exploding. How are we going to do this in the time we have left?”

Shane added: “The reason we could is because we were able to eliminate some things. That time between halftime, we made the best of our chances. Dean and I gave a hard presentation to Shawn and Ryan about that sequence and, again, having a relationship with collaborators who see your vision and then run with it, because we were financially able to eliminate some things that we might have wanted. or we didn’t need anything else, we were able to fit it in.

“Dean and I said it a few times, but the movie benefited from that break. Luckily we were able to solve problems and invent new things. It’s one of those things that, although it was challenging and scary at the time, in a way, it helped us in this experience to push the film a little further.

Dean continued, “Like I said, it’s one of those things that will stand the test of time. Customers only… it’s all handmade. It was all done on an inch of Hugh’s body. Even to turn everything around.

The creative team behind Deadpool and Wolverine did a great job bringing this crazy story to life. I know making movies isn’t cheap, but damn… $100,000 for a costume is crazy to me.
