Marvel’s standalone superhero film of 2018 Black Panther it was a big deal for the studio. The MCU had a very successful ten year anniversary, and this film introduced not only a new hero, but a whole new world within our own.
Over the years there have been misleading reports suggesting that black stories are not as marketable and the studio was trepidatious about the film’s possible success. Luckily they put their trust in amazing writers, actors and directors Ryan Cooglerwhich gave us an incredible Black Panther movie.
Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o plays the character of Nakia in the franchise, and yesterday, while attending a talk at the London Film Screen, she spoke about how, despite the film’s seven Oscar nominations and its $1 billion box office haul, the film’s production it didn’t go well.
“There was a lot of fear on the part of the managers. Marvel was shaking and so were we because we knew we only had one chance and we had to do it right.”
Nyong’o added that she and she Black Panther the co-stars knew there was “something different” about the project, so they all took a great deal of responsibility for their performances and the production in general.
“We knew we had a lot to prove,” she said, adding that she was proud of the film’s legacy and the effect it had on audiences. “People really saw themselves in the film and it completely destroyed the myth that black films don’t sell,” Nyong’o added. “We told a good story and the world responded.”
I love Black Panther. It was an amazing movie and it was so devastating when it had the leading lady Chadwick Bosemann he died after his battle with cancer. The story was able to move forward, but it will never be the same again. Black Panther he changed the course of Marvel’s dark stories and will always be known as a fan favorite.
