Terrifier 3 was released in theaters last weekend and many people flocked to theaters to watch it. Director Damiano Leone promised that the film would be the goriest of the series, and this gets wildly extreme.
Some people call the movie: “Terrifier: F*ck Them Kids” and there are a good number of people who feel that the violence is very close to crossing the line, and this is coming from seasoned horror gore hounds too!
The film is causing some controversy. The opening sequence, in particular, sparked some outrage.
The scene is a flashback to before the events of Terrifier 2and features Art the Clown dressed as Santa Claus visiting a family on Christmas Eve, but not to spread joy and cheer, but to shed blood throughout the house.
Art brutally kills the mother and father with an axe, and although the film does not show Art killing their young son, the audience is treated to the sounds of the murder in great detail and witnesses the aftermath.
Later in the film, Art blasts a number of children with an exploding Christmas present.
Look, other horror films have shown children being killed, but it’s rare and hardly exaggerated. WhileTerrifier 3 show some restraint, these scenes of child killing have caused an uproar among some people who don’t think this kind of violence against children should be depicted on screen.
While I’m talking to Total filmLion and star David Howard Thornton took part in the controversy and explained why they had no reservations about the inclusion of these scenes.
Leone said, “Everything I write has to be true to character and organic. I feel like sometimes with Art, where I might reach a taboo scene or topic, and I’m like, ‘Oh, what if it were a little, This will scare people.” And he’ll say, “I would.”
“And I have to say, ‘You’re right, you would.’ And I have to put it in there. It becomes a truly exciting challenge; can I dabble in these taboo topics and keep audiences in their seats? We will see.”
Thornton adds, “I think the important thing is that we’re not doing some sort of back-alley murder with kids in these movies, where I’m not going to be sitting there setting a kid on fire, and that’s something I would want. I have a problem with Do.”
This makes me laugh because it blows up a bunch of kids in the movie. Look, I love horror movies, but… Terrifying franchising is not for me. All the gore that’s exaggerated just for shock value doesn’t interest me.
Have you seen? Terrifier 3 Still? If so, what are your thoughts? Do you think it crosses the line?
