DC Studios is reportedly looking to cast Kelly MacDonald in LANTERNS

DC Studios is looking to assemble a strong cast for its upcoming Green Lantern series Lanternswith Kyle Chandler ready to play Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre taking on the role of John Stewart.

Now, according to @MyTimeToShineH, we’re learning this Kelly MacDonald (Brave, Waterfront empire, The Radleys) was offered one of the two female protagonists of the series.

This news was also supported by Nexus Point News, who added: “She is ready to play [town’s] sheriff and love interest of Hal Jordan. It’s unclear whether the role is an original character or Carol Ferris.”

In the comics, Carol Ferris is Hal Jordan’s love interest and is Star Sapphire’s alter ego. As the daughter of Carl Ferris, owner of Ferris Aircraft, she eventually takes on the role of CEO of the company, often working alongside Hal, who is both her employee and love interest.

Her transformation into Star Sapphire occurs when she finds herself possessed by a Star Sapphire gem. This gem grants her Green Lantern-like abilities, including flight, energy projection, and the creation of bright light constructs.

The gem also altered his personality when used. Over time, Carol Ferris struggles between her roles as hero and villain, at times opposing the Green Lantern Corps but ultimately fighting for love and justice.

Of course, if Carol is indeed going to be the town sheriff in the series, they’ve drastically reinvented the character. But maybe MacDonald is playing a different character.

Regardless, MacDonald will be a great addition to the DCU, if she ends up being picked up in the series.

The series will focus on new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, “two intergalactic cops caught up in a dark Earth mystery as they investigate a murder in the heartland of America.”

The project is developed by Ozarks‘S Chris Mundy, Guardians‘S Damon Lindelofand comic book writer Tom King.

When it comes to the eight-episode series, the co-presidents and co-CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn AND Pietro Safransaid: “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original crime novel that is a key part of the unified DCU we launch next summer with Superman.”
