Sandra Bullock talks about what it would take to make SPEED 3 at SPEED’s 30th anniversary screening

This week, the stars of the blockbuster action film Speed (1994), Sandra Bullock AND Keanu Reevesreunited with the director of the film, Jan de Bontto celebrate the 30th anniversary with a screening hosted by journalist Kris Tapley and his team Speed fan podcasts, 50 miles per hour.

Tapley was the driving force behind the Beyond Fest screening, which took place at the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre. The trio reunited for the first time since the film’s release, and the three enjoyed the screening with several hundred lucky guests, then sat down to talk about the making of the film and the possibility of a future sequel.

Fans are eager to ask about sequels especially these days, as we’ve seen some pretty fun sequels to movies we loved decades ago. So it’s only natural that fans attending this screening would want to know. When asked what it would take for a Speed 3 to hit screens, Bullock said:

“The geriatric version. It won’t be fast. All these things happened because that crazy man in the greenish jacket over there. He is so kind and gentle today and I think he is not the man I remember.

“But he’s the man who put together the energy and the idea, he knew what the audience wanted and he asked everyone and everyone stepped up to play it. So what would be that movie that would make Jan’s brain and genius happy? It would require a lot from everyone.

“I don’t know if we’re in an industry anymore that’s willing to tolerate it and be brave enough to do it. Maybe I could be wrong. … If he can’t do it [what’s in his brain] for the public, then it seemed that he had failed. I don’t know what we could do that would be good enough for the public.

At this point, it should be a great idea and perfect timing to have Bullock and Reeves return for a sequel. More Jan de Bont he has been retired for more than a decade and celebrates his 81st birthday this month.

So the ship may have sailed for this Speed followed, along with the not so successful one Speed 2: Cruise control cruise ship movie.

But never say never in Hollywood. Would you like to see the original stars reunite for a third film?
